Making your own soda and seltzer

I drink a huge amount of seltzer. I got tired of schleping back and forth to the store to buy cases of soda every other week. And the pile of empty plastic bottles really made me think about my impact on the environment. So I decided to research how to make your own soda and seltzer at home. I did a lot of research and discovered an easy way to build a machine to make soda and seltzer in your home home for under 2 cents a liter!

"Thanks for the very helpful guide. I'm making my own seltzer and I love it! My kids especially love all the cool flavors I can make them."

Better and cheaper than Soda Club

The SodaClub unit has a proprietary design, and they make money off of the "razors and razorblade" theory of business. They charge you a $100 bucks for the machine, but they don't tell you that you need to fill up your CO2 units all the time with their own VERY expensive refill cartridges. These cartridges cost about 10x more to refill than the system I built.

For less than $100, you can build your own system where you can literally make your own soda and seltzer for 1-2 cents a liter! Compare that to the ~20 cents that SodaClub works out to!

I've created an easy step by step guide to make your own seltzer and soda. It literrally takes less than 10 minutes to put together with 5 parts you can get off of eBay or several online web sites. I ordered my parts on Wednesday, got them on Friday, and was making my own soda on Saturday!

Here's what I've put in my guide:

You'll love having your own system

I love having very good homemade soda on the cheap and not having to lug around seltzer bottles or worry about it going flat. And I really love demonstrating how it works to frinds. When one friend of mine said he didn't like soda, I whipped him up a mango soda from this special puree of mango I had. He absolutely loved it! And a by-product of the cost of producing low cost seltzer water is that I can experiment with different flavored sodas. If I don't like it, or it tastes weird, I don't feel guilty about draining the entire liter or two-liter bottle.

It's the Green way to make seltzer

When you buy your water from the store, you are creating a huge carbon footprint by paying to ship water across the country. The plastic bottles really pile up if you drink as much water as I do. And finally, it is just so much more convenient to fill up a bottle at a time rather than carrying cases of water back and forth to the store.
